Early Morning Flight out of Heathrow T2

I have a 7:00 am flight out of Heathrow T2 on Dec 17th to Zurich on Swiss airlines. I understand that the first Heathrow Express leaves Paddington station at 5:10 am, getting into T2 in about 15 minutes. Is an hour and a half enough time to get through security and get to my gate in T2? Or is it better to leave earlier by cab or towncar?

I also understand that Terminal 2 has just been renovated and Swiss and other airlines are just now moving into that terminal. Is it more chaotic because of the move or is that not a problem as well? Thanks!

Hello Laura K,
If I will have a flight out of Heathrow airport scheduled for 7:00 a.m., the night before that flight I would have my overnight accommodation at a hotel located very near Heathrow airport. (I did that, twice). Shuttle busses go from the hotels to Heathrow Airport. Not all of those hotels near the Heathrow airport are very expensive. If you want to know my suggestion of a hotel, send a Private Message to me.

Having just flown back from Heathrow a month ago, I have to agree you will be cutting it too close taking Heathrow Express. Once you get off the train, it's a very long walk before you get to Terminal 2 to check in (seemed like we kept walking and walking and walking) which hardly leaves enough time to check in, get through security, and to your gate before they shut the door. Too risky. Stay near the airport.

Save yourself the anxiety. Use a car hire or cab. Easy peasy.

Terminal 2 is brand new rather than renovated although it shares some facilities with Terminal 1. All moves were completed by the end of last month.

I might be missing it somehow but I can't see a 7:00 flight from LHR to Zurich in the Swiss schedule for 17 December though; there is one at 6:00 and the next at 08:50.

I'm staying in an apt in S. Kensington so I think I'll just get a car. My mistake, my 7:00 am flight is to Geneva, not Zurich. Thanks to all for the responses.

The Swiss flights are more or less evenly split between LCY and LHR. The former has a lot of advantages for early flights in particular a rather shorter checkin requirement (30 mins for economy). I appreciatre in this case though that the LCY flight is also a little later.

I flew out of T2 a month ago. As it was mentioned T2 is brand new and large. After dropping off my bag I had to walk a long ways to get to my gate. I would strongly recommend you stay close to the hospital. Windsor would be a great place to stay. You can get a nice room at the Travelodge for £31.00 a night.

Went through T2 late August and mid-September. It was the easiest and least chaotic Heathrow experience I have ever had in 40 years traveling back and forth to the UK. Coming home it was about 10 minutes from walking through the terminal doors to clearing security! The terminal handles only Star Alliance flights so did have to change to T5 when flying on to Rome by BA. Long walk but had allowed myself plenty of time and everything was well sign-posted in T2.
