We are driving from the Cotswolds to York and trying to find a good halfway point to stop for lunch and stretch the legs. Is there a good castle anyone could recommend?

Not a Castle but Hardwick Hall ( more glass than wall).
Would be a easy diversion Only 2 miles off route .
Bolsover Castle in the same area would not be a bad alternate

Not quite as logical a route and more than half way,a diversion over to Connisborough castle would just mean taking the A1 up to York rather than the better,new - ish, M1-A1 link

Warwick Castle is only 30 minutes from Stow on the World. Make note, costly ticket.
Might I suggest Peterborough Cathedral. Bit of a diversion but interesting.
The In The Middle Pub near Langly Mill train station is nearly equal distance from Stow on The World and York.
