I have always wanted to see The Mousetrap. In December, my husband and I will spend a week in London and a week in Paris, so we will be packing light (two carry-on sized roller bags and two small backpacks). Before booking theatre tickets, I want to know the dress code for West End plays. I'm sure a nice sweater on top will be fine, but what about the rest? Are jeans okay? What about shoes? Can we get by with our sneakers? Thanks!
There is no dress code. Nobody cares what you wear. Well, a top hat is probably going to draw a tut or two.
People don’t dress up for the theatre anymore. I always wear jeans.
No dress code. I've seen women in dresses to tourists and others in jeans. Anything goes now.
You will see loads of people in jeans and trainers or other casual clothes. The UK is way less formal than visitors seem to think we’re going to be.
Wear anything you are bringing for travel. Nobody was dressed up when we were there. If it makes you happy to wear a nice sweater, wear it for you. Nobody else is paying attention.
I just saw Wicked in London 2 weeks ago. No-one dressed up ; lots of people were wearing jeans and sneakers.
I'd be more concerned with weather-appropriate attire in December than appearance.
I went to the Mousetrap a few years ago. I wore a sweater and black jeans. It was December so I had some waterproof boots, which were black. You should be fine in jeans.
Thanks for all the responses. To the theatre we shall go! :-)
