My wife and I are going to England next month. Dover will be one of our stops. Any recommendations for a good tour boat company that gives short cruises to see the white cliffs?
I wish I did. It would help all those people who come on here who suffer the difficulties of being a foot passenger from Calais to get a glimpse.
You can have a pretty impressive view from the land if you go up to Dover Castle and above.
A quick search turns up that there are tours available in a variety of boats - hopefully someone has taken one of them to give their impression. The big uncertainty is cancellation due to adverse weather.
Rick's England guidebook covers Dover, although his Great Britain book does not. A couple of recommended cliff-viewing spots on land include driving to Western Heights (www.doverwesterheights.org), White Cliffs Visitor Center (www.nationaltrust.org.uk/white-cliffs-dover), and the Prince of Wales Pier. Also pop into the local tourist office when you arrive.
Sea conditions can nix a boat tour. Hull form can help making some doable when others have to stay home.
See if you can find one with 'queen' in the name. I've only seen it from a distance, but it appeared pretty hefty.
