We will be arriving at Dover Castle (taking a taxi from the train station) about 12:30 PM and need to know after touring the castle, how close is it to public footpaths along the top of the white cliffs. Also, is it reasonable to assume that we can tour the castle and take the White Cliffs walk all in one afternoon? (Because it's all the time we've got there, unfortunately.) - Thanks for your help.
Yes, both can be done in an afternoon. The closest path is close to the castle, but the more preferred paths begin 1 mile away where the National Trust site is. When we were there, we came in from Canterbury, walked the paths for about an hour, then visited the castle before continuing on to Rye where we spent the night.
Thank you! That is what I needed to know.
We had a rental car so drove ourselves between locations. We also visited the WWII tunnels while there. They are by the castle.
We wont' be renting a car on this leg of the journey. Do you know if there is more than one boat company that takes visitors out into the harbor? The one Rick suggested doesn't operate in September, which is when we'll be there.
