Do we have to use 2 for 1 for everyone in our party?

I'm trying to figure out whether the 2 for 1 deals are good for us, and I've read a lot of posts but haven't seen this specific question addressed--so let me know what you think.

I've realized that between the young visitor discount on the oyster card and the child admission price to the attractions we want to visit, we are likely better off just using that combination for our children. However, the 2-for-1 deals with a National Rail 7-day travel card seem to be the better combination for the adults. Is it possible for us to have the 2-for-1 apply just for the adults in our party (1 adult paid, 1 adult free with 2-for-1, and 2 children paid)? Or are the ticket windows going to try to do one of the children's admissions free even if the children don't have the National Rail travelcard.

Honestly, this might be overly complicated, but it would be the least expensive.

What do you think?

Just have one adult buy the child tickets and one adult but the adult tickets.

As long as the 2 adults both have rail cards, you can use the 2 for 1 for the 2 adults. You can just buy normal children's tickets for the kids.
