My husband and I (Indian tourists) are visiting the UK next week. In other European countries, we’ve always received VAT refunds at the airport — especially helpful when buying luxury items.
But I read somewhere that the UK has removed the VAT refund scheme for tourists. Can anyone confirm if this is true?
It's true. No more refunds.
The tourist VAT refund scheme was abolished in 2021. The only way to avoid VAT on purchases is to order online and have them delivered overseas.
