Do I need a separate passport photo?

My wife and I are taking a train trip from Scotland to England. First question:
My wife and I have passports and other ID's (Florida drivers licenses). Is that all I need when I travel for proper ID? Do I need a separate passport photo even though we have passports with our photo?

Second question:
We already have booked the train tickets. Do we simply purchase our two together rail cards at the train station? Also..when we get to London, do we simply purchase our Oyster cards at the station in London? Our oyster cards or two together cards do not need to purchased in advance online...right?

Thanks guys

For simple ID, no, you do not need anything other than your Passport. However, you are asking about the "two together railpass"; for that, you have to provide passport type photos of both of you, I believe they use those to attach to the pass for ID purposes, and yes, they require that you provide photos.

Yes, you can purchase the rail cards there, the website provides details. You can purchase online as well, I imagine you have been to the website? https://www.twotogether-railcard.co.uk/

As for the Oystercard, you can get it ahead, but no advantage, just go to the first Underground station and go to one of the machines or a manned counter. The smaller station will only have machines, and sometimes a US credit card can have issues, so I would opt for a larger station, which if you arrive in London by train or plane, it is not a problem. your Florida drivers licenses are good ID in Florida and other states but of no use as ID in other countries.

Your passport is your ID here.

If you bring the photos it will speed up getting the Two Together card.

So...if I understand correctly, we are supposed to attach a separate photo to our Two Together card for usage? We cannot show them our Passport for validation of our photo ID? Thanks

The website makes it pretty clear that you each need a photo, that is their rules and how they do it. That ties the pass to you, you show the pass to get tickets, then get the discount, no need to show your passport or other ID. No sense in trying to do something different or question it, just go to Walgreens or CVS and get some photos.

I guess I will add, you say you purchased tickets already buy don't have the pass...I thought you needed the pass first in order to get the discounted price. Could be you received some other discount and do not need the two together pass?

If you are a member of AAA you can get the photos at no cost.

When I've gone to AAA (I am a member) for my IDP's I have had to pay a small charge for them to take a photo. If you belong to Costco they have the best deal for passport type photos. They charge $4.99 for 4 photos and they are available quickly. Just wander around the warehouse for a bit and they will be ready to pick up.

You can purchase train tickets and choose the option that you have the Two Together card even if you don’t actually have the card at the time you purchase the train tickets in advance. When you arrive at the Edinburgh train station after your flight, you just go to a staffed window and tell them you want to buy the Two Together travel card and hand the agent your two loose ID sized photos. S/He will assemble the separate Travel Card for you.

As Mona says you don't do the attaching of the photos to the Railcard - that is the job of the staffer who generates the Railcard for you.

The instructions on the website are pretty clear.

Remember that if you using the Two Together Railcard that you comply with time restrictions and that both of you travel together at all times. Your wife can't get off early and leave you to go a stop further - neither of you would have a valid ticket.

I say this with my professional UK railway staffer hat on - you do not need the Railcard in hand to buy tickets in advance. You note when buying the ticket that you are using a Railcard and as long as you have the Railcard in hand before passing through the ticket barrier gate and boarding the train you are legal. What you must never do is approach the train without the Railcard on which your ticket is based - once you are past the barrier or on the platform you can be inspected and if the Railcard cannot be presented you are liable for a significant fine.

C'mon ....I wasn't trying to get around something or game the system. Maybe I'm stupid but it didn't seem clear to me on the website. The way I read it...the website says to have two photos and gives detailed specifics of an acceptable photo. I assumed it was just for identification purposes to show to the attendant when showing my tickets and I didn't see where it says the employees actually obtain the photos and "assembles" the Two Together pass with the photos. That's why I asked if my actual Passport fit the requirement of having an identification photo. Now I know and will obtain an extra set of photos. Thanks

I didn't say you were trying to game the system.

I provided advice to keep you out of trouble and answer any unasked questions.

After decades of dealing with many people who either didn't know or actually were trying it on, I try to share the decades of experience I have in this particular area.

Forewarned is forearmed.

Have a lovely trip.

Just have a passport sized photo with you for each of you. Also, you can fill out the application form in advance to speed things up.

When you purchase your card, the agent will also print out all your prepurchased tickets for you if you have the confirmation numbers ready.
It is so simple to purchase an oyster card from the machine at the station.

Andrea,

When I've gone to AAA (I am a member) for my IDP's I have had to pay a small charge for them to take a photo.

We've found AAA benefits differ from one area to another. In Ga. we have to pay for the IDPs, but passport photos even without an IDP are free.

I think Florida is the same. Certainly didn't mean to mislead. OP can find out for sure with just a call.

TC, that is interesting to know that AAA is different regionally. Lucky you to not have to pay. Photos are definitely not free in California, but they aren't too expensive. I think I had to pay $15 or so. When I had to renew my passport I went to Costco for photos, so I had 2 left for my last IDP.

Andrea we went to our Northern California AAA last month and got passport photos in order to renew our passports. I expected to pay for them but they told us passport photos are free. Maybe they just charge for them when they have to attach them to an IDP?
