Discover Britain—April issue is all about Yorkshire

I'm sure many of you have looked at Discover Britain magazine, but the April issue just came out and focuses on Yorkshire—from the Dales to the North Yorkshire coast. There are a few other interesting articles as well, including one on All Creatures Great and Small, Harewood House, St. George's Day and Anne Bronte. There is even an article about the Ripon Hornblower, which I had posted about in another thread on interesting customs in Yorkshire.

You can subscribe to it, but you can also borrow it via Libby if your library subscribes and read it digitally.

Thanks Mardee for the alert on this magazine!
What a great issue!
I'll be looking for it at the bookstore today.

Oh, that's a good idea, Rebecca! I'm going to be at the mall tomorrow and I have a small gift card for Barnes & Noble burning a hole in my purse. I think I'll stop there and see if they have a print copy that I can take with me on my trip!

Bummer, just checked our local via libby, not in their catalog, but my daughter’s has it, so she can read. Thanks mardee for sending on the information. I know you must be counting the days now until your visit!

Not available on libby through my local library, but got it with Kindle Unlimited if you subscribe to that.

One good reason for subscribing to more than one library. :) I have library accounts with 5 or 6 different libraries. Some are places I've lived in, but others are for libraries in the same state. I've found that many libraries now will let you have a digital account if you live in that state.

I didn’t know that state wide option was available. I will check into it. I did learn that if you are outside the NOVA area (Alexandria, Arlington, Fairfax, etc) and you want a DC public library card, you can purchase one
(In person) for $20 a year. They have a really comprehensive catalogue.

I think I may just take the plunge and subscribe to Discover Britain, though! The online pictures are really pulling me in.

Thanks mardee. Also, I want to thank you for inspiring me. I have finally made the decision (after going back and forth forever!) to drive around Yorkshire when we go next spring. I even sent the reservation in this morning to Celtic Legend! Can’t wait to hear about YOUR trip and also how much fun it was to drive around there! 😊

Thanks, Mardee and Mustlovedogs for the information about the libraries.

I had picked up this edition at Barnes & Noble recently and meant to post something. I'm so glad you did, Mardee. I have been toying with the idea of a subsciption as I love hard copies..but maybe I'll settle for digital copies from a library.

I'm getting excited for our May trip. We will be in Yorkshire for 6 days and 6 nights. I wish it could be the whole 2.5 weeks, but I know we'll love the rest of our trip, too. I decided to split our time between Northallerton (hoping for clear skies at night) on a farm, and a hotel in Grassington, even though we could get around from one base. Now my husband is getting a little excited...he isn't retired, yet, so he doesn't get to spend his days immersed in travel planning or forum scrolling.

Mustlovedogs, oh, that's great! I don't think you will regret it. Yorkshire is much easier driving than Scotland, imo (and I've driven in both). And Celtic Legend (and Arnold Clark) are so great to deal with.

CanAmCherie, I think that sounds like a great plan! I like print copies of magazines, too, but usually settle for digital (I love to read fiction on my Kindle, though). But because it's Yorkshire, I think I'm going to pick up a copy tomorrow at B&N. I can take it with me and peruse at my leisure!

That’s exciting Cheryl! There’s so many places to see, I just want to keep going back! My family has already talked about staying on one of the working farms in the Dales. I look forward to hearing about your adventures!
