Discount theater tickets

Hi all. Last time (30yrs) I was in London we were able to purchase theater tickets the day of a performance for a deep discount. We would love to see mamma Mia but I'm not sure if it is possible to obtain discounted tickets. We are very open to other performances but buying for whole family so will really need them discounted. Is that likely? We will be there early June

Many thanks!

Lots of theatre info at this site: theatremonkey.com

It lists attractions, books tickets, discusses purchase strategies, and even warns of undesirable seats in various venues.
It also discusses the day-of-performance ticket bargains in the kiosk at Leicester Square. To be realistic, the top attractions don't need to discount to sell tickets. Mama Mia has been around so long that you might get a deal (it's probably played some city near where you live by now.)
One bit of personal experience with the discount kiosk: Front-row seats sometimes are offered. Depending on the theatre, they can be so close to the stage that the occupant's chief viewpoint is the knees of the actors. That's why they are cheaper.

TKTS is currently selling Mamma Mia at full price (or a little over if you take the fees into account). There are occasionally day seats directly available from the theatre but unlikely in family numbers.

Hello,
I found going to the box office of the particular show to be cheaper than anywhere else.
In March, I saw Half a Sixpence. The have a daily special of about 20 seats at 20 pounds a piece. I got in line at 9:30 am. and had 3 people in front of me. I was seating in the first row, center.
Check the website for whatever shows you want to see and see if they have any specially priced tickets.
Good luck!

Day seats may be available on the day from mid-morning and returns at any time, even only a few hours before the performance. More popular shows might need you to queue from early on (eg 8am) and they will typically only sell 2 seats at most per caller.

Mamma Mia, despite having been on for ages though still seems to more or less sell out at full price nearly every day.
