Dinner reservations in the Cotswolds?

We will be in the Cotswolds next week. I keep reading that dinner reservations are recommended. Is that true and how far in advance? Ideally we would be able to explore options when we are there instead of booking ahead online. Our itinerary is Moreton in Marsh, Stow on the Wold, Bourton on the Water, Guiting Power, Winchcombe, Broadway, Chipping Campden. (We're doing the walking tour.)

Thanks in advance!

Everyone bring a small pack to carry picnic food since you are doing a walking tour! If you see a Pub, most have outside dining! We often did take out, even for supper, so we could put our feet up and watch the Telly.
P.S. Some Hostelries and B&Bs will pack a lunch to go.

I can tell you my experience. The Porch House in Stow on the Wold is very good. I would make reservations now if you want to eat there. There's not much in Guiting Power except the pub, Hollow Bottom, but we enjoyed a dinner there. Probably don't need reservations for that. In Winchcombe, we ate at the Lion Inn. You might need a reservation there. In the other locations, there were plenty of options, so it depends on if you want to go to a popular place at a popular time.

I would make reservations now to be on the safe side. You can always cancel if somewhere else takes your fancy.

These days it’s quite common to find restaurants will only serve the number of people who have booked because of staffing issues, even if they’re not technically full.

I had good meals at Russell's and Broadbean in Broadway and at Eight Bells in Chipping Campden. I was there in autumn and didn't need bookings so can't answer your questions about booking ahead. Enjoy your walk!
