dinner near Piccadilly/Oxford

Hi all:

On one of our days, we will be ending our touring day around 6pm after taking the kids to Hamley's (on a Sunday late July)....

Looking on Trip Advisor trying to find a dinner place.. it's easier for us to just have the food details planned in advance. Any suggestions around there, roughly between Piccadilly and Oxford Circus tube stops? Or anywhere really within a 15 min walk or so.... So many restaurants to choose from! Any food is fine really... the kids usually find something! Just not too fancy or horridly expensive (just regular London-expensive is fine!).

Thanks!

Kim, not sure of your definition of expensive, but I found http://www.sancarlocicchetti.co.uk/ (Italian small plates, like tapas) reasonable for what you get and the food was lovely. Unfortunately the sample menus on the web site are of little use, but the TA reviews are good. It's right on the corner of Piccadilly Circus, booking essential. It looks posh and formal, which I don't like in a restaurant, but I found it very relaxed.

The best Sunday roasts I think are at Hawksmoor and the closest would be Air Street, just down Regent St from Hamleys and on the opposite side of the road. http://thehawksmoor.com/locations/airstreet

If you want more casual (and cheaper) dining, wander round the Carnaby St area just at the back of Hamleys and pick any restaurant - I haven't had a bad meal anywhere round there yet.

You would not be terribly far from Chinatown, around Wardour Street and Gerard Street, between Picadilly Circus and Leicester Square Tube stations.
