Dining suggestions for Bath and Cornwall?

In May, my wife and I will be spending several nights in Bath, followed by a week in Cornwall based near Port Quin. Does anyone have dining recommendations in either? Looking for anything from splurges to inexpensive yet memorable discoveries. Any style food is fine. We'll have a rental car in Cornwall. Thanks! - Alan

In Cornwall, The Mariners in Rock is a lovely pub with sea views. High quality food. It’s under top chef Paul Ainsworth these days.

Padstow is a well known culinary destination with several highly rated seafood restaurants. Rick Stein is a TV chef who owns a number of places there.

I always say this about Cornwall, but book now! It can be really hard to get tables due to staffing problems.

Even though I only live 10 miles from Bath I never go out there, but I do have new opening the Beckford Canteen on my radar following good reviews.

We had a wonderful Afternoon Tea at the Pump Room at the old Roman baths. You can also go over to the water dispenser for a glass of the mineral-infused water from the Source, which is an experience, but not as delicious as the tea or pastries they serve.

For coastal Cornwall you must have a dinner reservation or you'll probably be getting fish and chips from a food truck, and fighting off the seagulls. It isn't just the best places in town that will be fully booked.

We enjoyed the Crystal Palace pub on Abbey Green for a meal and a pint. I would also second the Pump Room since it so quintessentially of Bath for breakfast or some tea. The thermal water is, erm, interesting.

I second the recommendation for Scallop Shell in Bath. Excellent food and service. Best to make a reservation though. Very popular.
