Diana Fashion Exhibit at Kensington - Your Thoughts?

Hi-- I am currently looking at purchasing tickets to Kensington online. We picked Kensington over Windsor due to travel time and the fact that my daughter thinks it is "cool" that William and Kate + Harry and Meghan live there (I've made sure she knows we will NOT see them or their homes!)

The ticket is asking me to pick a time to view the fashion exhibit. I'm interested in the exhibit, but it isn't a deal-breaker for me. I do not, however, want to end up in really long lines for it. I'm looking at a Sunday in June around 10am. We have tickets to Warner Bros. at 5:30pm so we will spend the time between the two things exploring London (which is what my husband loves to do).

If you have been to the fashion exhibit...what are your thoughts on it? Is it worth the line (when two members of our party will NOT care and one may or may not enjoy the exhibit)? Due to not having Internet on our phones, we do not want to break up while in London and will stay together.

Thank you. This forum has been invaluable to me!

Hi -

I've been, rather against my better judgement, and enjoyed it. (My wife wanted to go, so.....). To be candid I have no real interest in fashion and you could put me in a Gucci suit and I'd still look like I'd been dragged through a hedge backwards, but I found it interesting all the same. Probably some envy in there about those than can pull it off and seemingly effortlessly at that. I'm not sure when we we went - weekend or week day, but I don't remember there being any huge queues, sorry, lines. I would think that 10.00 am on a Sunday wouldn't be the quietest time, but maybe others who have visited recently could advise more accurately on that.

Have a great trip!

Ian

I happened to be traveling to Kansas City about five years ago when they had the traveling exhibit of a portion of these dresses, photographs, etc. including Diana’s wedding dress. I was surprised how much more I enjoyed the entire exhibit more than my initial wish to see the wedding dress in person. The intricate details in the fabrics of the other dresses she wore were just stunning!

We actually really enjoyed the exhibit last summer.

On a side note, make sure that you give yourself plenty of time to travel to the Warner Brothers studios.

I am with Ian. It was very close to the last thing I wanted to do. But She-Must-Be-Obeyed insisted on going and absolutely enjoyed. In the it was slightly interesting. The most interesting part to me was how the colors of the gowns were chosen in relation to the furnishings of the room including carpet and wall covering. Wow !! What I don't know about high society.

Visiting KP was one of the few things we had not done on our multiple trips to London. Visited last November and the Diana exhibit was nice. However, as palaces go, I was unimpressed by how little one gets to see (one of those few rooms was closed for renovation) and how few furnishing there were. There are many much nicer palaces and chateaus throughout Europe. I know it costs a lot to maintain old buildings, so I didn’t really mind paying the entrance even though it is somewhat pricey. When we visited, we just walked up when we were in the area., no pre-booking. Windsor would ba a much better choice.

I went to see a Diana fashion exhibit in the spring of 2017. I selected the first entry time as I wanted to do what I could to beat the crowds. I then arrived 20 minutes early and there was still a line albeit a short one.

Now I'm not sure how this exhibition is done but if it is like the one I attended, you might have to walk through the kings and queens apartments first to get to the exhibition. If that is the case for you, DO IT. Don't stop to look; just keep walking. You can always go back to see these great apartments after the Diana fashion exhibition and I recommend that you in fact do that. So walk straight past these apartments to be among the first inside the fashion exhibition. You will have the least amount of crowds then and you will see the crowds fill up as time progresses to the point that they might have to wait on a 2nd line before the entrance of the exhibition. Don't waste your precious time. Enjoy yourself and then walk back through the Kings and Queens apartments.
