Debate about adapters for the UK

Hello all.
The good news is that after a scare about 10 days ago when Darling Companion was diagnosed with a detached retina - 'tho we're older, he sailed through surgery & recovery, and we're still going in mid-May to London & Scotland!

But the other news is that I may not have purchased the right kind of adapters for our computers, phones & ipads. This one does not convert voltage. What do I need, and do I need one that converts voltage?

Many thanks,
Marjie

Rechargers for electronics usually do not require converters, just adapter plugs.

Most electronics you might bring are dual voltage and have been for years. On dome, like my travel hair dryer, I have to change the setting, clearly seen on the appliance. Computers, phones and ipads are dual voltage without needing to change anything. You need plug adapters for the UK and Europe. I bring several along.

Often times, hotels will have adapters that have been left behind..

And U.K. outlets have an on/off switch for the outlet. Make sure to check this, don’t want to think you’ve charged everything overnight and get a rude surprise

That's true for newer things.

I'd not risk expensive electronics without looking at the printing on every charger. Probably all will be fine, but if you have one that isn't when you plug it in you can say goodby to that expensive hardware. That would be a shame....

Detached retinas can be tricky - I had a cousin with one. I hope his recovery goes well. The doc is ok with altitude during recovery?

Many socket outlets now combine USB ports 5 volts 2 amp, so bring any USB cables, you might not always need adapters, same applies if you use a car in Britain or travel on a train they now have USB ports. A Premier Inn Hub i used was very techie, USB and HDMI ports in the rooms.

Thanks, all. Nigel, you're so right - detached retinas are tricky. The surgeon did okay the trip; he used oil instead of gas, which is apparently a deciding factor about altitude.

Thanks Marjie. I don't mean to be alarmist about the voltage, if the printing on the charger or plug says 100-250, or 115/230vac or similar you'll be fine, but if it is an old one which snuck in which is only 115 or similar you won't want the consequences.

I'm glad to hear about the pesky eyeball...
