Hello! I will be in London the last week of June and was contemplating a day trip to the Cotswolds. Since I won't have a car, is there a good day trip via train? Or should I book a tour group trip? Any advice is appreciated!
Last week I was in London and I had booked a day trip tour to visit the Cotswolds (and Oxford). I did not want to spend the majority of the day in trains or buses, so that's why I made that choice. If I wasn't on my own and I had more than a week, I would have rented a car to better explore the area. Anyway, I loved visiting Bibury and Bourton-on-the-water (and Oxford too as it was included). I would have preferred a tour with less people though (we were 32), but the guide, the driver and even the bus were very nice. My first choice was a MadMax tour but they don't run the Cotswolds one on Wednesdays and unfortunately that was the only day I had free.
Book a tour by vehicle, there are a number on offer that visit places like Burford, Bibury, and Bourton on Water by minibus so limited to 8 people. Will be a long day but once you are out of London it is quite a pleasant drive.
Look at Rabbies Tours.
Small minibus; not a huge bus like other tour companies with 30 or 40 people on them.

It always amazes me when people want to see "quaint, little villages," but insist on not driving. Spoiler alert, the smallest villages are not served well by train. If they were, they would no longer be small villages. I like the Cotswolds for the small and quaint. As such, it is worth it to me to drive there. You may find a "tour" that will bring you to a few towns by bus along with tons of other people, but is that really the experience you are looking for?
