Day trip to Oxford from London

I’ll be taking a day trip to Oxford on a Thursday in April. I plan to get there by 9:30-10:00am and leave no later than 6:00pm. I definitely want to visit the Ashmolean museum. Does anyone recommend booking this in advance (admission is free)?

I’m also considering doing the City and University tour with Oxford Walking Tours. Does anyone have experience with this tour? If so, please let me know what you thought of it.

I also welcome any other suggestions for things to see or do, especially a good pub for lunch!

Lamb and Flag or The Bear Inn for pub grub. You can see menus on line.

My suggestion for lunch is the outdoor market at Gloucester Green if it doesn't have to be a pub.

Badger, good to know. I will be in Oxford on April 23-24, and was thinking about stopping there to check out the market, since it's close to the Gloucester Green bus station. But even better if the food is good! Thanks!

The regular collection at the Ashmolean is a walk in, no booking or even tickets required. If however you want to see the major exhibition 'Bruegel to Rubens' I would recommend pre booking.

The Turf Tavern for lunch, haven't eaten there since 2016 but it is a must visit (for me) even if just for a drink.

Oh yeah also the Trout Inn, probably just for a drink, too pricey to eat there these days but it is in a brilliant location,
