Hi, my husband and I are planning to spend a week in Kent near family and take side trips from there. What is the cheapest and best way to get to and from London on a day trip? Thank you we are staying are staying in Maidstone.
It depends on where in Kent you are. The quickest will usually be the train, assuming you're somewhere near a station. Cheapest will be bus or coach, but that can be a bit of a slog from the furthest edges.
a bit more information about where in Kent will elicit a more accurate answer
Your relatives in Kent probably have some good ideas.
As Nigel points out, where in Kent?

Maidstone East station has direct trains to London Victoria, operated by Southeastern Railway. Maidstone West station requires a connection at Strood to get to/from London St. Pancras.
Looking Up Train Schedules and Routes Online gives you the DB train schedule link and tips for using it. Or for the UK only, see www.nationalrail.co.uk.
Maidstone East is much more direct than the Maidstone West route via Strood and the train on from Strood to St Pancras has higher fares.
