Day trip to Chartwell from London

We are 2 seniors with a free day prior to the start of a southern England tour the first week in May 2026. We would like to find a way to get to Chartwell from the Victoria Station vicinity as my husband is a Churchill fan. Suggestions for transportation to the site & information about tours there would be appreciated. Reviews of the experience would also be helpful.

The easiest way is on a Sunday when London bus route 246 runs there from Bromley South Station, at the usual £1.75 London bus fare- http://www.londonbusroutes.net/times/246Sum.htm
Bromley South is in the TfL fare zones, so although a main line train, normal zonal fares apply, currently £4 each way. It has direct trains from London Victoria, not affected by engineering work on Sunday 3 and 10 May.

https://visitbytrain.info provides transportation info on London to Chartwell. On Sunday & Bank Holidays Bus 246 operates all the way to Chartwell from Bromley & Hayes when the House is open from March to October. Grounds 10:00-16:00, House open 11:00-16:00 by timed ticket. www.nationaltrust.org.uk.chartwell. If you want to go full Churchill visit Winston's and Clementine's grave in Bladon, just outside of the grounds to the south of Blenheim Palace (where he was born). The Palace is easily reached from Oxford by bus.

Let us know which day of the week you are going as the directions change depending on when the bus is running.

Definitely plan to spend quite a bit of time there as in addition to the house there are lovely grounds for walking. They have a cafe as well. May is a nice time for walking in Kent and you may even see bluebells!
