Day trip to Cambridge and Duxford

I'm planning a day trip from London to Cambridge and plan on taking the train. We also want to visit the Imperial War Museum in near-by Duxford. Not trying to find the cheapest way and we prefer to use a cab. (There will be four of us, so a cab is almost as cheap as four bus tickets, etc.)

Is the cab service between Cambridge and Duxford fairly good and dependable? Or will we have trouble getting there and back? Thanks!

I don't know about a cab, but it must be better than the bus. The bus is lengthy and then involves quite a walk (and we walk fairly quickly) along roads with little or no shoulders and cars moving past you very quickly. Whatever the cab costs, I think it would be better.

There aren't any cabs at Duxford, so take a note of the cab company number on the way out there and call them for your return journey. Duxford and Cambridge in the same day is a full on day, as you could spend a full day at each.

Thanks! The bus did look way too long and time consuming. So we'll try to set up a cab.

Could we walk from the museum to the train station at Whittlesford Parkway and return to London? So maybe take the train to Cambridge for half a day, then a taxi to the museum in Duxford, and then take the train back to London?

be very careful about plotting your walking route if you do that. The speed limit on the A505 is well over that required to kill and the combination cycle/walking path is not always adjacent to the road. Cars and trucks coming off the M11 may well be going quite fast.

Thank you, Nigel. I went on Google and used the little man (I'm sure there is a technical term for him!) to see the street view and it did look like a slightly risky walk along the side of the road. Especially if it is darker and the weather is bad. I think I'll heed your warning and just arrange for a taxi.
