Day trip from Southampton?

My wife and I are arriving in London on the morning of 22nd April and will be taking the Celebrity Apex out of Southampton on 24th April. We will be staying at the moxy Hotel by the port - is this is a nice / safe area to stay in?

Planning on taking it easy on the 22nd and recovering / resting having a nice pub dinner. Looking at possibility of a day trip from Southampton on 23rd April as there doesn't seem to much to do in the Southampton area. We will be doing Stonehenge on our return from the cruise before heading to London for the week so that's allready booked.

The only place we can think of is Salisbury cathedral but not sure if it will be easy to get to by train or bus? What other options are there nearby? Are there any organised day trips we can do from Southampton ?

Thanks in advance.

From Southampton, I would recommend either a day trip to Isle of Wight on the ferry, or taking the train to Brockenhurst and exploring the New Forest (from Brockenhurst you can get a short bus to Lyndhurst which is a very nice town). There's also the Beaulieu Motor Museum if you're interested in cars- I haven't been but it's meant to be one of the highlights of the area.

The train from Southampton to Salisbury runs every 30 minutes, with a journey time of 30 minutes.

Every hour that train continues to Bath- a further 60 minute journey (then Bristol and Cardiff).

There are two trains an hour to Portsmouth (for the historic dockyard) and four trains an hour to Winchester- for the Cathedral.

You are so close to Portsmouth and the Portsmouth Historic Dockyard that it would’ve a shame not to see them. It is about a 7 minute level walk to the Southampton Coach station from your hotel. A little further to the train station but it is also an option. Either National Express Coach or the train will drop you a two minute walk from the Historic Dockyard.

Here you will find many interesting exhibits, a harbor tour, the HMS Victory , and the Mary Rose exhibit. There is also a shopping mall with many restaurants nearby.

Is lyft available in Southampton? Or a cab to get from the Moxy hotel to the train station?

I have no idea about Lyft or Uber. A cab driver would take you on a journey of over a mile to the north side of the station (due to the local road layout) but the walk is only about 600 yards to the south entrance of the station.

Your ship is leaving from the Horizon Cruise Terminal- which is only a one mile taxi ride from the Moxy.
