Day Trip from London

You have all been so helpful on my road trip itinerary, now I need your help on choosing a day trip from London!
Torn between a bus day trip to the Cotswolds

Or a day trip to Dover/Canterbury/Dover Castle
Rabbies do both :)
I’ve already done Bath and Windsor, and doing Stonehenge on my road trip.
Thanks for your help

These are good problems to have... to me, the main question is are you more interested in small, traditional villages or big historic sites? The Cotswolds is more about an atmosphere of being in a certain place... The other option sounds like it is more about seeing big sites like the cathedral in Canterbury (and not sure where Rabbie's takes you but there are other great sites like St Augustine's Abbey) and the castle in Dover. In Dover, there's not much beyond the castle (which is great, especially if you are interested in WWII history) and walking the white cliffs. Canterbury is a nice place to walk around in addition to the main sites. These are just my opinions, but I hope it was somewhat helpful- good luck choosing!

That's a tough one.

I've been through numerous areas of the Cotswolds and enjoyed them.

I'm also a big history buff so Canterbury and Dover Castle were high on my list. (Dover Castle is a lot more than just WW !! history which is what makes in unique.)

It really depends on what interests you more and when your trip will take place. Both areas can get extremely crowded.

Well, I looked at both Rabbies tours and here is a brief itinerary of both.

Canterbury: Canterbury Cathedral, Dover Castle, White Cliffs of Dover and Kent.
Cotswolds: Oxford University, Great Hall of Christ Church College, Traditional Cotswold Villages, Bibury

So the Cotswolds tours is not all Cotswolds as you can see. At least half of it is Oxford (which to me is a plus, but may not be to you). I would sit down and look at videos or photos of each place, and figure out which you would like to see.

Honestly, I think that the Cotswolds tour might have the best of both worlds. A beautiful university city with a dizzying array of architecture and history, and then a tour of the traditional iconic villages of England. But it's your tour so enjoy whichever one you choose! Really, as the others have said, you can't go wrong with either.

I love both Canterbury with its Cathedral and Dover Castle (you can skip the town). To really see either, you need a day. Canterbury is the easiest to do because it is a shorter train ride and easy to walk from either train station into the old town and the Cathedral. Dover Castle is more difficult because of the increased train time and the need to walk from the station up to the castle and you then would have to walk to see the white cliffs before going back to the station. There used to be a 1 hour fast train to Dover; otherwise it is 2 hours 1 way.

There still is an hourly train from St Pancras to Dover, taking fractionally over the hour. Off peak fares booked in advance are very cheap.

The new Rabbies tour to East Anglian villages looks interesting, and you would struggle to do that one yourself.
