Day trip from London

Planning our own day trip from London to Bath. Is it worth getting off the train in Chippenham and taking taxi to Castle Combe then taxi to Bath and take late train back to London? Thanks.

For myself it would not be. Castle Combe is cute but very small and maybe worth an hour. It sounds like you'd be spending more time on transportation than seeing the main street, the bridge and the church.

I have been to Castle Combe perhaps 3 times on various tours. One with Rick Steves, 2 with MadMax, a day tour company out of Bath.

There is also a LOT to see in Bath for my money.

I agree with Pam. Bath is a wonderful place and deserves a full day. Castle Combe is cute, but for me with one day, not worth taking time away from Bath.

I’m in total agreement. Train straight to Bath and return if only for a day. Bath is a lovey city to tour. Went to Castle Combe on a Mad Max Day tour.

You can take the Train from London to Salisbury, see the Cathedral, Sarum and Stonehenge, and then continue to Bath.

With a limited day, I'd agree that Bath is more than enough to keep you busy without adding extra travel time to Castle Combe. Bath is a wonderful place and has so much history to explore.

Maybe save Castle Combe for another trip when you have more time in the area. The train straight to Bath and back seems like the best plan to maximize your day.
