Day trip from Arundel?

Eek, I think I screwed up

I was trying to book the Explorer Pass for the Mary Rose and HMS Victory (got the 28th), as well a guided tour for the Mary Rose. That's no problem got the tour, but when I tried to book for the Explorer pass for admission to the MR and Victory, it says there are no events available for my selection.

So, this must mean they're sold out

I didn't think these were so popular that I needed to book well in advance ...if so, I'm heartbroken, and pissed off at myself. I was so looking forward to this day - and it makes me unenthused for my brief stay in Arundel

I'd rather not go to Portsmouth for that day - can anyone suggest a good day trip? I was thinking of the Seven Sisters, but I don't see any good day tours for that

Thanks!

Betsy, do you mean this month?

But I just had a go at buying an Explorer Pass and it’s coming up with a spinning wheel and then “there are no selections available” even before I’ve entered a date, which is baffling. So I wonder if it’s a website fault. They can’t have sold out of all tickets for every single date.

It’s not currently school holidays so I would imagine there’d be no issue with getting in on Monday 28th April, if that’s what you’re referring to.

If I were you, I’d contact them directly. Or go to Portsmouth for your tour where I assume you’d be able to buy the pass on the gate.

GG, yep!

It would have to be the 28th since the MR guided tour isn’t available on the 27th

I know, I find it hard to believe that these sites are THAT popular…& even if they were sold out, you’d think they’d show the dates

That’s a great idea - I’ll contact them to see what’s up. It could be that they are just updating the site

I’ll let you know what happens

Thanks!!

The days of quotas are long behind us. Booking online is just a convenience promoted by giving you a little discount. And of course attractions can gather more information about you that way.

Just buy when you get there, which the website is clear you can do.

I too think it is a website problem as no ticket types can be purchased online for today or future dates, which is just not real.

EDIT- I can book the Mary Rose Tour as a standalone booking (independent of the admission price) for £15 for both the 11am and 1pm tours on Monday.

Stuart, thanks!

I might as well - it can’t hurt to try. I’ll have to book the premium guided tour for the Mary Rose now so that it doesn't fill up

Yes, the tour is separate…I don’t know if it’s refundable if it turns out that the MR & Victory are sold out, but I’ll have to risk it

If this doesn’t work out, someone suggested that I take the train to Seaford for the Seven Sisters. Are there any villages/towns that I could also spend time in, that are easy walking distance? That would be a nice day,

Thank you!!!

It definitely looks like a website error. I tried two different browsers, one just gave me a constant spinning wheel whilst the other returned a message stating there was no availability for the dates selected before I'd even had the opportunity to select any dates. The visitor capacity for the dockyard is huge and I find it inconceivable that tickets would be sold out for your dates.

Mary Rose and Victory will not be sold out on a random non-holiday Monday in April.

Seriously, if it makes you feel more confident, contact them today to confirm that it’s a website fault and you’ll be able to buy on the day.

GG, you’re right - that would make no sense

For some reason, I’m having extreme difficult making phone calls with the phone with the e-sim, so I’ll e-mail turn to aww what’s up

Thank you !!!

Camborne, looks like I’ll need to go that - though I’ll keep following up

I think the Seven Sisters is better from Tunbridge Wells by bus to Eastbourne then the open top bus.
If I was putting together a scratch day from Arundel I would be looking at Chichester and Selsey Bill, then the Itchenor ferry and Bosham.
Or maybe Hayling Island, and the ferry over to Eastnor. Then the coastal walk past Fort Cumberland and Southsea Castle to the Hovercraft pad.
Or bus from the ferry to the Dockyard , then the Charles Dickens Birthplace Museum and Portsmouth Cathedral.
That's my kind of wish list.

Stuart, the great news is that the glitch is fixed - and I was able to get my Explorer Ticket for Monday the 28th!

So, now I arrive in Arundel on the 26th and roll spend the 28th in Portsmouth.

I’m not sure it’s a great idea to explore Arundel Castle on the Saturday I arrive as it’s a longish train ride with 2 changes. I feel like I should probably see the castle on the 27th, when I’m fresh - possibly combine it with the Amberley Museum

But I admit, I wish I could see the Seven Sisters, you think a bus from TW to Eastbourne would be feasible? I’d have to check how long the ride is….is there a village I could lunch in? Or explore?

Thank you!!!

The 51 runs hourly from Tunbridge Wells to Eastbourne taking 1 hour 50 minutes. If I was doing a stopover somewhere I would probably choose Hailsham.
Another route is the half hourly 29 to Lewes and Brighton as far as Uckfield, then the hourly 54 to Eastbourne.
Or the train from Lewes to Seaford or Eastbourne.
Lots of options.
