Hi, I am going to be in Brockenhurst, Hampshire for work but have a day before my flight leaves to do something fun. I don't have a car and plan to take the train from Brockenhurst back toward Heathrow where I'll be staying the night before my flight. I'm uncertain where to go for that half a day or so. I will have my luggage with me (unless I check in at my LHR hotel prior). Any suggestions? Thanks!

You're in the New Forest, a spectacular national park! You don't say when you'll be there but if it's in the summer you could take a bus tour http://www.thenewforesttour.info, there's a pickup in Brockenhurst.

Take the local train from Brock down to Lymington or go by train to the seaside at Bournemouth. Alternatively, go by train to Winchester - which is on the way to Heathrow. (For Heathrow - leave train at Woking and use bus link to airport).

What if you went to Windsor, spent the day and night there and took a cab to the airport in the morning? It's a short trip.

Thank you. I'm actually spending several days in The New Forest, and will be both taking the tour bus and visiting Lymington. I was looking for something outside the park. Windsor or Winchester might work. Thanks.

In that case Windsor or Winchester are equally good options, difficult to choose between the two. I love Winchester but Windsor certainly has its own appeal.
