Day tours of the York moors

Hi,
Does anyone have suggestions of a good tour company who does day tours through the York moors?

Thanks!

Do you want to do hiking or do you want to tour historic sites? Yorkshire is a rather large county so where you are staying makes a big difference, If you are in York you can easily book a tour from there to Castle Howard, etc. If you want to hike, there are many self guided tour booklets available at the tourist office or any historic building that is open to tour. Check itineraries on the National Trust UK site. They have Overseas Visitor Passes available on-line. They have walking tours with maps on-line. Visiting ancient abbeys and churches is very interesting and scenic.

Thanks for the suggestions. I would love to hike but we won't have the proper footwear. My daughter is participating in the World Pipe Band championships in Glasgow so we will have a lot of extra gear, ie. her drum, kilt, etc., so no room for hiking boots/ shoes. Great idea though. Sounds like I need to plan a second trip to the area. 😄

How would you and she like a lovely ride through the North Yorkshire moors on a classic steam train in original carriages slowly viewing the beautiful countryside? North Yorkshire Moors Railway, a preserved railway, at http://www.nymr.co.uk/ might be just what the band leader ordered.

Good luck in the competition...
