Day Tour of Stonehenge, Bath and possibly Windsor from London

Looking for any input on whether to take a day trip from London to Stonehenge, Bath and Windsor with a larger group (up to 53) versus a day trip to Stonehenge, Bath and an undisclosed location (not Windsor) with a smaller group of 16? We don't want the day to be too rushed, but we're not sure if Windsor is a "must see" and worth the visit. Thank you!

To see all three in a day would be very rushed. You’d just be herded from one place to another without being able to really take in and enjoy the locations. Each of the locations is worth a day trip by themselves. Windsor castle will take a minimum of 2 hours to see. Then there is St. George’s chapel that will take time too. If visiting during tourist season, and especially when moving slower as part of a group, it will take longer to see anything. If I had to drop one of those sights, it would be Stonehenge.

That's way too much for a day. Think how long it would take to get 53 people on and off a bus, repeatedly. As for the smaller mystery tour, why would you pay someone to take you to an unknown destination?

I'd say pick one of those three destinations for a day trip (combine Stonehenge with Salisbury if that's the one you pick). Windsor could be a half-day trip. All are easily reached by train (easy bus to Stonehenge from Salisbury station). A guidebook will help you appreciate what you're seeing for a lot less cost than a too-fast-moving guided tour.

I thought Windsor was worth the visit. I saw it on a large bus day tour that included Hampton Court and returned to London via boat on the Thames. It was a long exhausting day but I had no regrets. However my definition of "Must See" was based on my interests and the number of days I was spending in London. At Windsor you're seeing a combination of castle-art museum-stately home-chapel so if you're already seeing the Tower of London, an art museum, and Westminster Abbey or Saint Paul's you may decided to give Windsor a miss on this trip.

Since nobody has chimed in on Bath yet, it also deserves more time, we needed two full days to appreciate it. But to answer your question, a 16 person tour will allow for a more relaxed pace without the herding. Even the bathroom breaks for 52 people will take forever. Windsor is an easy train ride from London.

I love all 3 of these locations but not together in the same day!

I agree with the recommendation to pick Salisbury/Stonehenge or Bath for a day trip. It's very easy to do yourself, trust me on this. I'm not good at navigating public transport and either of these are very easy. The local bus company in Salisbury called the Salisbury Reds runs a shuttle out to the stones all day long, then comes back via Old Sarum.

IF you have enough time, I also prefer staying overnight in both Salisbury and Bath but I find many things to do in both places.

As indicated Windsor makes an easy 1/2-3/4 day trip from London. It usually take me 3/4 of a day because I like to see everything, lol. Others are content with a less detailed trip.

If you don’t have enough time to do these sites on different days then go ahead and do a tour of all three, or just two of them. I’ve done all three sites on a tour and it wasn’t bad. It is a long day but worth it if you have limited time and really want to see these sites.

As others have said, hitting all of these on the same, would be rushed and you would miss a lot. Stonehenge is not to be missed, but it isn't like it used to be. You can't walk among the stones anymore. A good place to see another neolithic ring, is Avebury. It is a small village with a good pub which sits in the middle of a neolithic stone ring. You could spend several days in Bath, and a good half a day at Windsor. I would pick one, perhaps Windsor and do it by yourselves. Easy train from London.

Bath is my choice. The problem with Stonehenge is you can no longer walk around the stones and must stand back a ways with a crowd of people in front of you taking photos. I would go to Windsor before Sontehenge.

I (over) struggled with this same question. There are many tour groups both large and small with different price points and time spent at each location to choose from. We wanted to see Stonehenge, Bath and Salisbury and there were not nearly as many options, but there was one option that included all four so we’ve signed up — will be a busy and long day this summer!

My view is typically to try to see as much as I can in a day, and if I love something I can then circle back on a return trip.

We did a full day tour to Bath and Stonehenge leaving from Victoria Coach Station on a traditional 50 person bus. It was the perfect amount of time. The bathroom breaks were at the sights themselves so no additional waiting on people. I would not try to squeeze Windsor in the same day.

Windsor is easy to do by train from London. No need for a group tour.
