Day in Bath from London

Going on a day trip from London to Bath on our own. Planning to do a walking tour. Is 8 hours enough time to see everything? Also has anyone taken the Bath boat tour on the River Avon? Is it worth it? Thanks. JD

It depends on what you want to see. The last time we were there was as a day trip from London. We departed about 9:30, arrived in Bath walked around, visited the Roman bathes, Royal Crescent, cathedral, and had afternoon tea at the pump room. We departed about 6:30 to return to London mostly because it was December, cold and rainy and we saw what we went to see. Could you spend more time; most definitely, but you can see a lot in 8 hours.

Bath isn’t that big. You will be able to see all the main sights in 8 hours.

Try tea time at the Jane Austen Center - highly recommended and last June was a pretty decent price for high tea. (27 GBP) But 8 hours should be plenty of time. Baths take an hour or so. Didn't go in Cathedral, but was great to even check out from outside, but again, maybe another hour at most. Walk around a bit, tea time, dinner. 8 hours is plenty of time. All of the "touristy" area of downtown is about a 15-20 minute walk - train station to Cathedral 5-10 minutes and then Jane Austen Center another 10 minutes or so.
