Day 13 of 35 and loving it.

We are in Chester at the moment. Visited The Conwy area yesterday and this morning we are leaving for Keswick to explore the Lake District beforewe head to Scotland.

It’s been an amazing trip so far. Loved Cornwall. Loved Bath. Cardiff was good and The Cotswolds were adorable. Chester and the Conwy area were favorites.

Only quirk are the single lane roads when you meet up with someone. Omg. Scary. I even went the wrong way on a street in St Ives. Thankfully a post office employee let me know and I backed up. Still scary that with 3 people in the car we still made that mistake cause we were all watching.

Even the rain has been ok.

Loving the scenery and the people are so pleasant.

I could not have done this without all of you.

Thank you so much. My hubby and my
Mom are loving it here.

Very pleased that all is going well. The old single track roads are derived from medieval tracks - and some of the straighter roads were actually originally built be the Romans.

Glad you are having fun...wish I could convince my hubby to drive when we go over next year, but I don't think that is going to happen...

WE really love our GPS. It’s been invaluable.

Forgot to mention that our day at Highclere Castle was a total highlight. My mom was over the moon.

What's his main concern?

Driving in the UK is helped somewhat by the relatively well mannered driving (although not always). It's a far cry from the aggressive, frenetic driving one finds in southern France, Spain, Italy etc and even the US. I've driven all over the States and found on average there to be less lane discipline, less courtesy and a lot of tailgating in comparison to the UK and northern Europe.

Driving on the left does take a bit of getting used to but it's surprising how quickly you adapt. I accept that everyone is different but I can switch from left hand to right hand driving without hesitation now that I'm used to it. An automatic helps greatly and whilst they are more expensive to rent it is a price worth paying just to remove that additional stress of a manual.

So glad you all are enjoying the trip. You put so much effort into planning it! You'll love Scotland, as well.

I too admire your bravery driving !! I know I wouldn't and I know I'd not enjoy it if my hubby drove ( he'd scare me ! Lol)

JC - he just doesn't want to drive on the 'wrong' side - I told him way worse drivers rent cars and drive over there all the time. Even tried to convince him to take my sister's car for a spin when we were over there - she even has an automatic...no go.

And I won't do it because I'm one of those people who wants to know where I'm going at all times (I won't even drive in our capital city here)...it would be way too stressful for me. I'd rather navigate.

Ah well, that's a shame.

Whilst driving opens up a greater number of opportunities the public transport system is quite good in the UK although the rail system is even better in many continental European countries so it's not like you're going to find difficulty in moving around. Visiting the bigger cities via train would be the better option than trying to negotiate bus routes.

You'll probably encounter more of those very narrow roads around the Lake District, but the scenery is worth the challenge.
