Current status of covid testing

We're both vaccinated and double-boosted. Will we need a Covid test before leaving the US to the UK? Or a test before leaving the UK for the US?

Many thanks,
Marjie

Agreed. I spent a long time triple-checking and a long time on the phone with Delta yesterday. You only need proof of vaccination for England (and we understand that that includes boosters - I too am double-boosted, and my daughter has one booster (all she qualifies for at the moment, given her much younger than me age). England requires no testing and no quarantining. at least for when we are going, which is in just over one week. (France, Monaco, Switzerland are the same)

However, the US does indeed still require testing to return home. The test can be a PCR or antigen test, and must be taken within 1 day of your departure for home. If I could, I would require that everyone be vaccinated who can be. And we plan to wear masks on the planes (whether they're required or not). But this whole testing thing now has me baffled. I am just not clear what purpose it serves, given the widespread nature of covid in our country. From the stats I've researched, there are higher incidences of this here than in many European countries, because their rates of vaccination are so high. Commentary aside, there is no option, unless the rules change, and I don't see that happening in time for our upcoming trip at least.

I recommend Abbott's BinaxNow antigen test. We used it when we were in Italy this past fall, it worked really well and was fast.

You can check using this site:

https://apply.joinsherpa.com/travel-restrictions. You do not need to test to enter the UK - vaccinated or not vaccinated. There are no restrictions, no masks, no quarantine. Currently, the US is still requiring antigen testing one day prior to departure to the US. This week airlines have requested again to have this rule dropped for air passengers entering the US, not sure it will happen anytime soon - stay tuned and be prepared to test on your last day in the UK.

Many thanks to all of you! Very helpful. I found a drive-thru antigen testing site and reserved a time for the day before we fly out of Edinburgh.
