Cruises on the Thames

My husband and I will be in London for a few days prior to our RS tour. We plan on taking a cruise to Greenwich and I'd like input comparing the City Cruises vs Thames River Services. After looking at both websites, Trip Advisor, and RS guidebook, they seem comparable. The TRS has an online coupon for 1/2 off, but the City Cruise website indicates seniors are about the same price. We plan on a one way trip to Greewich. Also, I'd like to purchase same day. Is there any advantage to getting tickets in advance? Any information is appreciated.

If you want commentary on the trip, the City Cruise or the Thames River Service cruise are the options. TRS offers 1/3 off if you have a Travelcard. The less expensive option on the Thames Clippers RB1 route mentioned above does not offer commentary, but is least expensive. Those are the boats we use.

I think the City Cruise boats are the red ones we have seen with an open upper deck--fine on a nice day but not good in the rain.

You could wait until you get here and see which type of boat you like. I have seen 2-4-1 offers on one of the cruise services, but cannot remember which.

You can compare prices on the TRS (river cruise) and MBNA Thames Clippers (river bus) here:
