Crouch End to Oxford to St Pancras

We are a family of 4 with two teenagers who will visit London in June this year. We will stay at Crouch End for Monday and Tuesday and would like to take a trip to Oxford and Cotswold for the Wednesday night which will unfortunately also be our last before leaving for Paris on the Thursday at 13h30 from St Pancras.

I am very unsure whether we should hire a car on the Tuesday (from St Pancras) and leave early morning on the Wednesday or should we rather take a train to Oxford and get a car there early morning on Wednesday. I am concerned about things like congestion fees, parking, traffic but don't want to hassle too much with luggage on trains either.

Really appreciate your feedback please

So if you are just going for one night, why not pack everything for the four of you into one small bag and then store the others in London? There is a website called Citystasher where you can find a business that will store your bag for you. It's fully insured and convenient in that there are locations all over London. That way you can leave most of the luggage behind and not worry about it with navigating the train.
I would not rent a car at St. Pancras. London traffic is a bit of a nightmare. Just leave early on the train and rent a car out in Oxford. I've used Enterprise in Oxford and they are great. They will even meet you at the station with the car as long as you take the agent who drops it off, back to the office. Easy.
