Are credit/debit cards accepted by taxis in London?

Yes credit cards are accepted by London black cabs. Pay by phone too. Never tried a debit card but they should work too. If I don’t have cash I ask the driver if their card machine is working prior to entering. The protocol seems to be that you give the driver your desired destination through the window. That’s when I ask about their card machine
I’ve seen some posts that indicate that the payment machine is required to be operational. Otherwise the taxi is not considered fit for service. Never had to push that point.

Paid with debit card for all taxis (save the ones my wife took on her own). Not a problem, remotely.
Tap to pay seems to work better in England than in the US. Not sure why that is, but it felt true.

Tap to pay is easy and you'll be "prompted" to tip your cabbie (it usually gives his name to personalize things).
they also have USB charging ports, the only shame is that the driver is totally encased in plexi so if you're the type who likes to chat, not likely. Be aware that he has a mike and speaker to talk with you and he could leave your mike on and listen to any conversations you might be having.
