Cream tea in London

Looking for a fun place to have a cream tea in London just the basic tea and scones. Anyone have a particular favorite spot?

If you're going to St. Paul's then you can have a very nice cream tea in the undercroft at their small cafe. Great atmosphere and they serve their scones on beautiful slabs of olive wood - something a little different!
Hush Brasserie does a very reasonably priced cream tea that we frequently have when we want to stop for tea but don't want to spend a fortune. There is one right across the street from St. Paul's and another one not far from the British Museum. Their food is very good as well if you are looking for a meal.
In Covent Garden Brown's does a simple cream tea that you can add things on to without going the whole nine yards. Last time we were there we liked it so much that when we were done with tea we stayed for dinner! A little indulgent I know...but we were on vacation!

You can get a plain or fruit scone with a small pot of jam and tub of Rhodda's clotted cream for about £3 at John Lewis on Oxford St. It's upstairs...on the the 5th floor. For the summer, they also have the roof garden open and you can look out over the shoppers and rooftops of the West End.

if you're shopping along Oxford St and need a tea break, it's a great place to go, but don't go out of your way.

I suggest going to The Orangery at Kensington Palace, it's beautiful and great food. A friend and I are going to be in London in September and can't wait to go to The Orangery. Have a great trip.

I have to second the Orangery comment - it's lovely! And if you want a basic tea and scones or an afternoon champagne tea that I lovingly devoured for my birthday one year, then it's the place to go. It's got a nice mixture of casual and more formal patrons, and the staff is really friendly, and most importantly, everything is absolutely delicious!

If it's a cream tea you want, I like the National Gallery or Liberty. Not so much St Martins in the Field because it's a cafeteria, but I like the location. Every major attraction and department store seems to have a tea room, it's one the the things I love about England.
