Courier to retrieve iPhone left at City Airport London

We accidentally left a phone in security and the airport has confirmed they have it, but we are now in Germany. They suggest we hire a courier to retrieve and mail it to us. Does anyone know a reliable service in London?

I left an iPad on an aircraft at Heathrow once. Plane could not be searched as it was already sealed for its next flight and I hadn’t realized loss until hour later. Airport staff gave me info on how to search for lost items. I found the iPad and the lost and found service arranged express service to US through DHL. I also had to complete a custom form in advance. I was pleased with DHL

I wish I were near enough and I would do that for you myself - but I can't.

I honestly don't know who would be best - of course there are all the usuals, FedEx, DHL, TNT - and I'm sure they would all be fine. But who will make up the package? They won't just take it loose, I wouldn't think.

Sorry I'm no help. Has the airline any suggestions? City Airport is pretty small - they may have better service than a big place.

I believe the private carriers offer packing service, though few people would choose to use it for something as simple as an iPhone. I think the tricky part is retrieving the device from the airports lost-and-found room and physically getting it to a DHL/FedEx/UPS office. And I'm afraid I don't have a solution, either. I'd do some Googling, starting with "concierge service London". There are definitely services in some large US cities that will do things like stand in line for you at the motor-vehicle office. That's what you need. Or someone who knows a staffer at City Airport, or an airline employee working on flights that use that airport.

It would probably save a lot of money if you could make contact with someone who is passing through City Airport and later flying back to the US. The international shipping charge is going to be pretty painful.

... but not as painful as a gone iPhone...

It is the service ( retrieving and packing) that will be expensive, not the shipping. I mailed a small package back to the US from London and it was under £8. I wouldn’t think the package handlers lie DHL and FedEx would be much higher than the post office.

I was including the packing fee along with the shipping cost, assuming that the person who retrieves the phone would not be the one packing it for shipment. If the shipper packs it, I think it would be possible to have it insured against breakage.

Try bagport.co.uk They operate forwarding of lost and found items at Heathrow, and it looks like they have a similar service at City Airport.

At City they will forward items rejected at the Security check, but perhaps they can advise you in your situation. If you can, please come back to us with your solution. Many of us could easily have this problem!

After turning in our rental car in Manchester, we took the train to London. While on the train my friend realized she left her jacket and iPhone in the rental car. The rental company had them, so she called DHL and another company which I can’t remember which one, but neither one would take a a credit card from America. So the next morning she had to go up to Manchester to pick them up herself.

I remember that one, Robin Z.

By the way, is our original poster, slfabry, still around? Is this still a problem or have you solved it?

Thank you for all the input. The airport lost and found said other customers had used FedEx and DHL. We had to wait until Monday to check with them and neither of them seem to do the pick up at the airport part. We also checked with the Deutsch post . I also checked with bagport as one of you suggested and even though they list London city Airport they only have items from Heathrow. I could not find a way to contact them directly.

We will be in the Dusseldorf/Münster/Frankfurt area until October 29. We are hopeful that someone we know knows someone who might be traveling to London and back to Germany with in the next two weeks. That seems to be our best hope at this point. By the way, according to bag port six iPhones have already been lost to Heathrow today. I still welcome many more good ideas. thank you.
