cotswolds without a car from London

My wife and I and another couple will be in central London in early June and we would love to visit the Cotswolds for a few days however we do not want to drive. So we are hoping to be able to take a hired car of some kind to the Cotswolds and then be able to hire a car and driver who could drive us around the area for two days and then after that get a car or taxi to Heathrow for our return flights. I appreciate that this would not come cheap but it is our dream and I think we have the capacity to afford it (and we can split between two couples) if we can figure out the logistics. I suppose we can figure out how to get the car from London as our hotel there can arrange it but not sure about the rest, and in particular getting someone to take drive us- and show us around- the Cotswolds for the two full days we would be there. Does anyone have any suggestions?

thanks!

We are planning to take a train to Moreton in Marsh and have that be our base while in the Cotswolds, and use buses to get around in the Cotswolds. I don’t know if Moreton has the charm of other places in the Cotswolds but we are going to try this.
Last year we stayed in Broadway and loved it but we had a car and went to many villages by car.
Your trip idea sounds great!

There are several mini-van tours in the Cotswolds online. Someone on this forum mentioned one that included tea. Some of the tours leave from London. I enjoyed Snowhill Manor and Sudeley Castle. Prices can be higher in the Cotswolds because of the demand. I understand that some can not drive anymore, but if you still can, it is not that hard to use the left lane, just follow the other people and use navigation. Friends of mine went on a walking tour with accommodations and pickup at the end of your walk, included. Of course, renting a car for just 2 days may not save any money. Buses are available, check online. I am pretty sure a private driver will charge by the person or the price will be high enough to compensate them to be at market price.

I took a couple of American friends to the Cotswolds this past September and we did it without a car. We stayed in Morton in Marsh (Airbnb) within a 5 min walk to the railway station. It was a well appointed three story cottage on the high street with excellent decor and facilities. Easy to eat at pubs in town and pick up groceries. I would suggest you research online and take a tour of some kind and not rent a car, especially out of London. We used the following tour small group tour company: https://www.cotswoldsguidedtours.co.uk/cotswold-tour-dates (I see they have one day open for a private tour but do have their 2 day tours available for June (they only take 7 passengers). Pick up is a MIM railway station. Very reasonably priced and it covers the north and south Cotswolds. There are several other private tours companies available that will cost around $500-$600 a day - so split between friends it is not too bad. You will just have to research online or dig around this forum for recommendations.

I would take the train to the Cotswolds from London. If you stay in MIM you can also easily do a day trip into Oxford on your own. Very easy to do.

Thanks to all of you and I have looked into the Cotswold's Guided Tours. Looks good.

Other options are GoCotswolds from Moreton-in-Marsh/Stratford-upon Avon and Mad Max from Bath. Those are van-based tours and reasonably priced for individual travelers; GoCotswolds shows a rate of £65 at the moment (Christmas period is a bit higher). I don't know what sort of deal you could get for a private tour for four people.

Just to add to your options. Friends of mine stayed in Bourton on the Water this past June and took a private tour with this guide. Mark Ransom. You can find details at https://www.bestcotswoldtours.co.uk/. they really enjoyed his tours and he picked up at the hotel. They stayed at the The Lansdowne Guest House and had a wonderful experience. He is a little more expensive but its just you and the guide.
