Cotswolds- Short, last minute trip. Advice please

Hello. We need to travel from the US next week to Bath for a funeral. While there, we would like to explore the Cotswolds. We will have two days (one night), April 19 - 20 which falls on Good Friday. Questions: Should we rent a car or just do public transport? Which is the best village to stay for that night? Should we book a tour or (if we have a car) drive ourselves?

Sorry for your loss. Train to Bath from London. Rent car there.

Short drive to the lovely Castle Combe and for an overnight stay head further to Stow on the World. Don’t take the main route. Meander.
