My wife and I are staying in Painswick for two nights in late October. With such a limited time, I welcome any suggestions for places to see, pubs and historical sights/villages in the area. Is a car a must? Is a day visit to Bath worth it or, with our limited time, should we consider staying nearby and visiting a number of nearby places? Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks!
With only 2 nights, I'd pick the Cotswolds OR Bath. If you want to see much of the Cotswolds, then IMO a car is a must. Can I ask why you picked that particular spot? Most people go for the more obvious towns like Bourton on the Water, Stow on the Wold or Morton in Marsh etc.
Thanks for your response. We decided on Painswick as it's off the beaten path some, in a quaint village and has a very nice boutique hotel located there.
One of our UK contributors will have some ideas and know about public transportation from it to other places. Two nights means a full day which isn’t a lot of time. Both Cirencester and Malmsbury Abbey are about a half hour drive away, while Gloucester and Cheltenham are both about 20 minutes away. If you are interested in supposedly haunted buildings, The Ancient Ram Inn is in nearby Wotton-under-Edge, a 30 minute drive. With the limited time you have, if you can take public transportation to Gloucester, Cheltenham, or Cirencester, that might be easiest. Bath is certainly a possibility. The link is for four way to get from Painswick to Bath.
Dont miss the Rococo Gardens just outside Painswick
