Cotswolds for 2 nights

My husband and I will visit Oxford in mid-July and wish to visit the Cotswolds for 2 nights.
We will take a train to Moreton-in Marsh and try and do a day tour by bus. Looking for recommendations on which village to spend the nights in, which villages to visit over the next 2 days, some walking or hiking trails or group tour. Most of all we will rely on local buses for travel so any tips on where to get the timetables and routes.
Looking forward to some help and thank you all in advance.

I don't know if this will be useful to you. We spent 5 nights in the Cotswolds in 2023 without a car and this is how we got around:
We are early 70's and I have a bit of mobility challenge. I gathered most of my information from this forum and googling things.

We took a train to Moreton in Marsh and stayed at the White Hart Royal Hotel for 2 nights. We took a private car to Hidecote Gardens and then he came back for us and took us to Broadway. (Cotswolds Executive Cars-07919 160630 or 07538 184691. Mark Jepson-07895 028448. Hope Private Hire-07585 308838. Stow Cars-07946525039). We took Bus 1 from Broadway back to MiM.

When we left MiM we took Bus 801 to Bourton on the Water. We stayed 3 nights at the Chester Hotel. From there we took a day trip to Stow on the Wold (Bus 801 to and from). Another day we got a private car to Upper Slaughter and walked to Lower Slaughter (very easy, pleasant walk) but it's also a pretty nice walk from Bourton on the Water to Lower Slaughter (we did that one in 2019).

Thank you dear Katie. I appreciate your detailed reply especially with the bus and car driver details.
I am quite encouraged to plan a 2 night stay at the least.
Hope to make some beautiful memories.

We did the Cotswolds renting a car and it was great. Stayed at The Volunteer Inn at Chipping Campden.
