Cotswolds by car in August...reserve accommodation ahead?

Hello,
Four of us will be in the the Cotswolds Aug 13 through 18 with a rental car. Do we need to book accommodations ahead time?
How busy will it be in August? Are there Tourist Information offices in all of the small towns to help with last minute places to stay?

Thank you. Diane

August means school holidays, so book accommodation now, as places will get fully booked.

The bigger towns have Tourist Information offices, although some have reduced their opening hours due to austerity cutbacks. They will have lists of accommodation, but they may not know which have vacancies.

I didn't look for tourist offices in the Cotswolds because I just took a one-day van tour there, but I did come up empty in several other UK towns/cities, including Brighton. As of 2017 quite a lot of places had an "information point" (rack of brochures somewhere) rather than a staffed office.

you want to get rooms for 4 on the fly?

You asked three questions - the answers in order are:- yes; either busy or very busy depending on the weather and where you are relative to the bank holiday; no, only a few and they aren't much help these days.

For the question you didn't ask - using Booking.com for last minute hopes but the best answer is book ahead. On the day you get what everybody else didn't want and what ever rooms happen to be near each other.

Nigel, thanks. That made me spit out my coffee...yes "on the fly" was the question at the request of 2 of my travel mates. I agree with your advice and we will take it.

Reserve ahead in the Cotswolds. We stayed in Chipping Campden at the Volunteer Inn. It has a nice pub and Indian Restaurant.
