Cotswolds and Hampton Court

We'd like to do Hampton Court and the Cotswolds (specifically Burford) for our one day away from London. Is this feasible? What is the best way to travel to do these two places?

Hampton Court tour and trip will take at least half a day or more with coming and going. A combined entry and train ticket can be combined at different rates depending on if you are a senior. You can take a Thames boat there coming or going...must check tides and schedule. Another idea is to take train to Oxford then bus to Woodstock to see Blenheim Palace which is on the edge of the Cotswolds for a day trip. You can take a bus from Oxford to Burford. To go to Burford from London taking the train takes 2 hrs one way and is 31 pounds. Evidently it also includes a bus or two. So it looks like a day trip there is doable.

You don't mean cover both on the same day, do you? This isn't feasible unless you charter a helicopter!

Hampton Court is a full day trip. The easiest way to get there is train from Waterloo station, which takes c 40 minutes.

Burford doesn't have a rail station. By public transport, it's c 4 hours from Hampton Court, as you will have to go back into London, then train to Oxford then two buses. Hampton Court to Burford by car is likely to take just under 2 hours, hence my comment that it isn't realistic to cover both on the same day.

I suppose you could rent a car and do it but why?

So in IMHO The answer is no, not feasible.

Have you looked at a map yet?

Not in one day. But see at least one , they are terrific areas to visit. I am going back to visit Hampton court and gardens again this summer.

Thank you all for your advice! It sounds like it might be better to do it in two days. Either that said, are there some good quiet English villages near Hampton Court? Maybe we can do that instead.

Hampton Court is on the edge of London, so it isn't really near any pretty villages. Thames Ditton is quite nice, but I'm not sure it's worth a diversion. The nearest place of the sort you're looking for is probably Shere, near Guildford.

Hi aklittle7,

The village question is a great challenge -- where to find that experience in London.

Pete mentioned Thames Ditton, and I agree it's a good pick but out of the way.

London is made of villages. If you want a good walk with a less urban feel, I love Richmond riverside to Petersham Meadows. You can check out Ham House if you want a longer walk. At the end, return to Richmond and explore riverside and Green.

Hope you have a wonderful time!

Cheers,

Jill
