Cotswold walking tour posted10/25/15

We are heading to Great Britain and want to include a 5-7 day hike through the Cotswolds as part of our itinerary.
Live in the NW but hope to have some rain-free days. Spring vs fall months ? Recommendations for routes, companies to manage bags and time of year.

Thank you

We used World Walks to walk the Cotswold Ring. One of our families favorite vacations.

Lots of fun.

We've used Contours Walking Holidays for several northern England/Scotland walking trips and been very satisfied.

Our walking trips have all been in late May. The climate records seem to say May is one of the dryer months (for northern England), but being England expect rain. Daylight hours are longer in May than the fall months.

We have done the Cotswolds Way in September, the Coast to Coast Trail in August, and are now on the West Highland Way. We highly recommend Mickledore Travel.

My favorite thing to do in the Cotswold's; walk. This coming year has us in Bath with several days left of our vacation. I decided I wanted to walk, I found this company--Cotswold Walks. They offer both guided and self guided trips. We are booking a self guided tour that takes advantage of the railroad. We will take train to Cheltenham Spa and the take taxi to Winchcombe to begin our tour. We will walk over several days concluding at Moreton-in-Marsh. Once again taking advantage of the train to head back to London.

I highly recommend Cotswolds Walks (www.cotswoldwalks.com). We did a 4-day walk to/from Bath, but they offer many itineraries. I found them very easy to work with, they accommodated our needs, and the lodgings were perfect. They are a small company that focuses on the Cotswolds. Please check them out.

Plus 1 for Cotswold Walks. Worked well for us. We've also talked to Contours people and a Macs Adventures, all seemed pleased with their experience. Debra, if you've got the time, the walk from Cheltenham to Winchcombe is quite nice (of course it all is). We did take a bus to the edge of Cheltenham to omit walking through the big city at the start.

The best trail is the Cotswold Way National Trail, you don't need a company to do this. A friend and I walked the trail last September, by ourselves, we are two females ages 65 and 70. Our husbands thought we were crazy, but we had a great time. We started in Chipping Campden and ended in Bath. There are so many books on the Cotswolds Way trail. You can pick up the tail anywhere on the trail. The trail is 102 miles, but you can start any where along the trail and end where you want to. We took along the book Cotswold Way by Tricia & Bob Hayne, it's has the trail broken down in section, tells how many miles that section is and has a great map for each section. You will save lots of many by doing it on your own. I would get two or three books that read, it will help you decide which sections you want to walk. We loved it, saw the most beautiful scenery that wouldn't be possible to see, unless you are on the Cotswold Way.. There is a great company that will take your luggage from B&B and not expensive, they did a great job, we were very pleased. So we only had our day bags with us while we waked/hiked the trail. If you want anymore information just message me.

The walk between Cheltenham Spa and Winchcombe is not a concern, however, I do not want to drag my suitcase along.:) Two years ago, my husband and I rented a cottage in Blockley. We trained to Moreton-in-Marsh and took a taxi to the cottage, once again we didn't want to drag our suitcase along the trail. The next day we walked to Moreton-in-Marsh to pick up our rental car. The rental place was closed on the day of our arrival. We drove to villages we wanted to visit and did circular walks. When we left, we dropped off the rental and trained back to London. This year we wanted to try something slightly different, but we are still taking advantage of the trains. I am looking forward to the linear walks. Plus, having someone to take care of the bags is a bonus.
