Cotswold Towns to Visit?

We are staying for a week in self-catering house in Mickleton; what little towns would you recommend we visit?

Planning on Bath, Chipping Campden, Stow on the Wold etc. Any recommendations would be appreciated...

Probably the most visited, but I'm glad we visited Upper and Lower Slaughter, Bourton on Water. We visited in May this year, when the weather was a bit iffy and the area wasn't over run with visitors like us. We did the lovely easy walk from Bourton on Water to Lower Slaughter.

We were in the Cotswolds 3 weeks ago and we LOVED Great Tew. In fact we loved it so much it really spoiled the other much larger and more crowded and touristy towns of the Cotswolds.

Stow on Wold, Bibury, Morton on the marsh, Upper and Lower Slaughter, and Bourton on the Water are all great and you really can't go wrong with any of them. Just be sure to enjoy a few and not try to see them all and wear yourself out.

We did a 4-day walk to/from Bath last summer. We stayed in Bradford-0n-Avon, Lacock, and Castle Combe. All of them were charming.

You will be knocking on the door of two world famous gardens across the road from each other - Kiftsgate and Hidcote Manor Garden. Kiftsgate is private and Hidcote is National Trust (and one of my favourite places in the world and certain the best garden I have ever visited).

Get onto the country lanes with a good GPS for backup, and a good navigator for help, then navigate by dead reckoning and using the directional signs at most junctions and just explore. Go for the smaller villages for beauty and simplicity. Try for little runs to Guiting Power, Stanton, Stanway, Snowshill, Cold Aston; all very close.

See what you like - just like wandering Venice. Enjoy the drive; keep left, watch out for sheep, look out for pheasant and quail on the road. Stay out of the ditch, the hedge, and the walls. The walls have no mortar in them and make a proper mess if you clout them. Don't do that.

Enjoy.

You still haven't said when this excursion is....

Stanton, Painswick and Ebrington these small villages are what the would refer to as a chocolate box villages. They are soooo
beautiful. We stayed at B&B's in each of these villages when we walked the Cotswold Way. Broadway and Bourton-on-the-Water are worth a visit also.

We spent a week in Stow n the Wold in August and September. Highly recommend Hidcote gardens, Chedworth Roman Villa, Minster Lovell, and Upton House ( a bit further). For an inside view of local villages and a delightful day, we recommend the "Secret Cottage Tour". This was an all day tour of many small villages (no driving!) with morning coffee, lunch, and afternoon tea in a lovely thatched cottage. Although we have been to the Cotswolds before, we loved this tour.

Greater Tew is fabulous.... eat at the pub and then take a little walk up the hill on the road to the right. Nice old architecture and a view back to the town. It is charming with beautiful thatches and heard it was used in a number of films.

I'll be visiting the UK next summer to see my daughter who is studying at Kings College London. My visit will be two weeks (including arrival and departure days).
I'd like to get to Cotwolds.

Being a hobbyist photographer, I'm looking for suggestions on which towns would provide my best opportunities to make pictures. I expect I'll be using public transportation on this trip, so once in the Cotswolds that will be a consideration in getting from town to town.

it would be better if you ask a specific question like that under your own thread, as you did in Italy. That way you will get all the notifications of answers instead of jean.

There are good answers on your topic available.

Kate, where did you stay in the Cotswalds for your 3 weeks? Any place you would recommend? My husband and I are thinking of staying there for almost 2 weeks as a home base and wondering how expensive it would be.

Thanks!

Catherine, you might want to start a new post as this one is a little old. You will probably get more new responses. You will love the Cotswolds!
