Coronation festivities possibly complicating May - June visit to London

We are beginning to plan a trip to Scotland and England for next May and June and are concerned that the coronation May coincide with our trip. How disruptive might this be in London specifically and across the country for travel and crowds? Should we consider alternate dates? Thanks

We were in London a few days in June, 2022 just before the 70th anniversary of QEII's rein. And we always stay just north of Hyde Park where so many of the festivities were being held. We took the Heathrow Express to Paddington Station and a short cab ride to the hotel.

Go ahead with your plans. As long as you can confirm hotel reservations you'll be okay. If things are busy around the city, you can always get around on the Tube--underground.

I was (inadvertently) in London this past June during Jubilee weekend, and had no trouble avoiding problems. It probably depends on what you plans are in London--I was not going to any royal places.

I'd suggest getting your London hotel lined up as soon as you can. Otherwise, being there for the coronation would be a great chance to see and participate in an event that might happen once in a lifetime. An insight into how the British celebrate their monarchy and a chance for many interesting and fun conversations with these friendly, kind, resilient people. For me, those opportunities would outweigh any extra crowding at tourist sights, or limited closures of places like Westminster Abbey.

Why would you consider alternative dates? It will be an occasion you will likely never see again in your lifetime.

Unless I’m mistaken, the date of The Coronation has not been announced so I’m not quite sure how you intend to plan around it. It could be over a year away.

There will probably be disruption along the processional route in London and the day maybe a bank holiday, but there won’t be any disruption elsewhere in the country. I am hoping it will be May or June, as I will be in France!

I've searched for any announcement of the date of the coronation, and I have not found it. I have a great deal on a room already booked for April/May, and would like to know when the Coronation will happen, and if there is a chance I have a chance to be there (for cheap!). Once that date is announced, I'd imagine that the hotel prices will soar through the roof... :)

But no, don't re-book any of your plans until after the actual date is released. Possible that it won't really be announced until after Sept 19th, out of respect for the services.

London will not be boring, that's for sure. :)

No one knows yet. However, if one wants to hedge thier bets for a cheapish hotel, look at either the May Day or Spring Bank Holiday weekends.
