Cornwall with mobility issues

Hello,

We are traveling to Cornwall in September and are waffling about where to stay. We have already booked 3 different places in St. Ives and cancelled two of them. We are currently booked at the Seaforth in St. Ives. I know that St. Ives is hilly and cobblestoned.

I can walk on the flat with no problem. On hills I would use my trekking poles. Stairs are really challenging but can do a few up and down. I can manage a ground or first floor room with no elevator. Second floor or up, I would need a lift. I'm open to staying somewhere other than St. Ives but we don't want to be in a modern town or industrial area. Looking for picturesque, historic, small, etc. Anyone have suggestions for me?

Thanks so much.

I think you will struggle a bit in that location. St Ives is beautiful and you will love it. Will you have a car? If so then somewhere with parking is imperative unless you have a companion who can drop you off and then move the car.

The area of St Ives called Downalong is flat and from there it’s a flat walk to the harbour and to Porthmeor beach. It would be a rental cottage rather than a B&B in this area. You don’t need to climb the hills from here and you can still take in quite a bit. There are restaurants within a very short walk.

I can’t think of any cobbles in St Ives. A few setts maybe.

Thanks for the suggestion of Downalong. We found a guest house in that area that had 1 room available. Reserved it for now and continue to do research.
