Cornwall - Should We Stay in St. Agnes or Pendeen Area?

Need some advice on where to stay. We're taking train from London to Truro and will pick up our rental car but can't decide whether to stay in St. Agnes or in closer to Pendeen (close to Pendeen Lighthouse). Found a really cute miner's cottage (but no wifi perhaps cell phone will still be ok?) or in another nicer but more modern flat in St. Agnes. Since I'm a big Poldark fan I'm leaning toward the miner's cottage but my friend is kind of out on the fence even though she likes being in the countryside.

We'll have 4 nights/3 days to explore before leaving for Liverpool and no big deal as far as being close to restaurants as long as pubs are around.

I had been hoping that @Camborne would come up with other suggestions for St Agnes with his family links there, but it didn't happen.

I would be on the fence as well with that choice, and would probably have to toss a coin. My thought is purely that for some of your trips it is further to drive, on interesting roads.

I would not be surprised if you need to be with a certain company for cell service. There may only be so many towers in the area. Ask your host for his/her thoughts. If it is down by the light the problem may be magnified by the fact that the light is down a cliff. Everyone thinks of lighthouses as being on top of a cliff- not always the case, notably at Pendeen.

If you want a meal or the shops you have to drive into St Just (or remember as you pass the big shops on the eastern outskirts of Penzance).

I would think that there is a high possibility of little or no mobile signal at a remote cottage in Pendeen. In all honesty you could also have that issue in St Agnes as well. I’d choose St Agnes because it’s a wonderful place itself with some access to facilities.

I think staying in St Agnes would be preferable. It will be very helpful to have wifi for planning your next day’s activities and driving routes. I think you’ll find it an annoyance not to have it and I would not rely on mobile signal in Cornwall.
