Cornwall in April

Hello~

I will be traveling by train (rail pass) from London to Cornwall in late April and will stay 3 nights (half day on arrival followed by two full days). It is my first time in Cornwall and I am trying to decide where to stay--prefer to stay in one town. I would like to visit St Michael's Mount, St Ives, Falmouth and possibly Penzance and Mousehole. I have considered Truro as a possibility and go out from there. Any recommendations? Thank you.

Check train times on the nationalrail.co.uk website. Google for bus times. Transit to the coastal towns in Cornwall is rather slow, and I'm not sure there's a single base that will be practical for all the places you want to see. Truro might be the best option, and I liked what I saw of it the one night I stayed there. There may be difficulties when you try to get to more than one of the little places on the same day. If you find the rail and bus service inadequate for your needs, you might consider a one-day bus tour that hits several of the smaller places so you only have to manage your own transportation on one day.

Edited to add: Are you sure a rail pass makes financial sense? They rarely do. UK rail fares are often painfully high for last-minute purchases, but Advance fares can be very reasonable.

April when? This year or next? Easter or not?

If the answer is this year then you're cutting it very fine for accommodation. If the answer is this year AND over Easter then good luck!

We were in Cornwall during Easter a few years ago and we booked almost a year in advance and places were being snapped up. It was very busy during that time and we experienced great weather.

Hi from Wisconsin,
The London train goes all the way to Penzance. And Penzance is most centrally located to the places you mention wanting to visit. Odds are, that if you are in Truro, the bus will go to Penzance and then on to your location. Penzance has enough population so there are stores, restaurants, etc.
