I’ll be flying into Newquay in July, plan to take the bus to Falmouth, which let’s you off at The Moor, I need to find a place to stay for just one night, I plan to take the ferry to St. Mawes the next day, so something convenient to walk to is what I’m looking for. I’ll have just taken a ten hour flight, followed by the bus to Truro, then Falmouth and it’ll be late afternoon, so something convenient yet not too noisy is what I’d love to find. Any suggestions and do I have the best way to get from the airport to Falmouth? Thanks
Buses are about the best public transport option, though Falmouth will require a couple changes likely. Cornwall has a unified bus system, though parts are run by different companies. You can use the app for tickets, passes, and route information: https://www.transportforcornwall.co.uk/ Otherwise, you could look for some type of private transfer service.
As for hotels, we stayed up on the main road, away from town center, maybe not the best for you. July is high season, so places fill up early, and depending on day of the week, some places look to let for multiple nights (you would maybe have trouble getting a single night on a weekend). There are also no big chain hotels really.
You might look to some of the pubs, they have a few rooms. I can't vouch for any of them, but the Chain Locker, The Jacobs Ladder, and the Prince of Wales are all located near the Quay and have rooms.
I stayed at the Royal Duchy hotel, which is about a mile walk from the St. Mawes ferry. I really really liked the hotel and the location (right off the beach) was wonderful. Here is my review of it from 2024.
The old U1 bus from Newquay to Falmouth has now been split at Truro. It was always faster anyway to change at Truro so the effect is minimal.
It's a shame the new mid Cornwall metro is not yet running - trains every 30 minutes Newquay to Falmouth by next year.
Have you looked into overnight at Newquay, then bus to St Mawes next morning changing at Truro?
Or overnight in Truro?
