Cornwall

My husband and I are considering travelling to Cornwall in late August or early September. We are interested in the town of Fowery as our base. What is the town like? Is it possible to rent a car with a driver? Should we consider hotels or a cottage?

Thank you for your help.

Fowey ( no R ) is a cute place , much like any number of Cornish fishing villages . As far as hotels vs. cottages , that depends on whether you prefer a hotel , or self catering ambience , a choice only you can make . Can't help with a private driver , but I have made several trips to Cornwall , and my preference is to have a car so that I can explore at will . The freedom of a car anywhere in rural parts of the UK is much to my taste - Here is a little hamlet that we found on the Lizard Peninsula that you can have a look at - http://www.cornwall-online.co.uk/kerrier/coverack.htm many like it and , of course the tin mining history , maritime trades , and more .

We love Cornwall and have gone a number of times. Lizard Peninsula is beautiful as is most of the Atlantic coast. We prefer its wild, rugged cliffs to the softer southern side of Cornwall. Our trips have all been in the spring (April or May) so we missed the worst crowds. Tintagel and Port Isaac were lovely at that time of year but may be crowded in August and September (better). Boscastle is worth seeing (very small) and Padstow is a lovely town as is St. Ives. I don't know about car with driver - we've always driven ourselves. Enjoy! Julia

We spent 4 days last June in Cornwall...we didn't want to drive so I found Tim Uff of Tour Cornwall ( http://www.tourcornwall.com/).
It was great not having to navigate all the small lanes. He is the guide that took Rick around in the new TV show on Cornwall.
Tim picked us up at our hotel in Bath. He showed us many villages, towns and moors before dropping us at our base for the night - Port Issac. We are Doc Martin fans and this is where it is filmed. We were lucky enough to get a room at The School House which is in the program. We are also Poldark fans and Tim made sure to work in many of the sights from the program.
Tim then picked us up in the morning and off we went on our adventures. The next 2 nights we stayed in Newquay - just in time for the Brexit vote! Again Tim picked us up after breakfast and away we went. On the last day we toured as he took us back to our hotel in Bath to meet up with our Rick Steves tour of England.
Best thing we did was hire Tim - he is so easy to work with - you tell him what areas you would like to see and he makes up an itinerary, which can be changed at any time. Made our vacation so much more relaxing - not having to worry about driving on the left or getting lost!
