We’re traveling into Heathrow on April 20th, for a week. We’d like to get the express train into central London, without needing to change. What line would that be and what hotels are close to the tube stations for that express train? We’d like a hotel under $200.00 per night, twin beds, including breakfast. The one sight we’ll be visiting is the Globe Theatre, and were hoping for a nice place near the Globe or Tower of London. We just don’t want to pull our luggage a long distance, to get to the Heathrow Express, when we leave. We’d be very happy with a Bed and Breakfast. I remember the Thistle Hotels and I have stayed at many during visits to London. Are they no longer in business? My favorites were at the Tower of London and Charing Cross. Things have really changed since I was last there!! Any suggestions and advice will be so welcomed! Thank you!
The Heathrow Express (that is its name) is non-stop from Heathrow to Paddington station, which is on the edge of central London. It is not a tube line, there are no intermediate stops.
There are many hotels near Paddington station, I suggest you search for "hotels London Paddington".
The cheaper alternative route (still direct, no changes but slower and many stops). Is the tube "Piccadilly Line".
You can see it on the tube map here (dark blue line): http://content.tfl.gov.uk/standard-tube-map.pdf
Any station between Earl's Court and Kings Cross (inclusive) can be considered central London, and all have many hotels within walking distance. Again, google "Hotels [station name]"
I don't know about location, but Premier Inns, though no frills for amenities, are inexpensive, comfortable and roomie.
I am a little confused by your post. Are you planning on staying out at the airport for a week with just one night in Central London? The transport back and forth on the Heathrow Express on a daily basis could get expensive.
If it were me, I would choose one of the Premier Inn hotels in Cemtral London and stay in the hotel for the entire week. Premier Inn Waterloo or Premier Inn County Hall would fit your budget.
Thistle hotels exist but the Premiere Inns are the better of the two chains. That said and with your budget you could also consider the Hilton chain.
As noted your query is a bit confusing but my take is you are arriving at Heathrow, wish to use the convenient 15 minute ride on the Heathrow Express into Paddington station.
As already pointed out The Heathrow Express doesn't stop anywhere. Merely transport between LHR to Paddington Station. To save yourselves money book your Express tickets 2 months out. Easy to do. Can load tickets onto your cellphones and/or print them out at home to take with you. I do both as I prefer a paper trail.
If you want ease of hotel selection there is a Hilton at Paddington station. Have never stayed there but walk by it every time I'm headed to my B & B. ( I have sent you a personal message about that B & B ).
You talk about lugging luggage. You are traveling in April. I travel to London during winter months and still only bring the 23 inch roll on and small back pack. Even with the heavier clothing items, jeans, sweaters Etc., For me it's all about mix and matching 3 tops, 1 pair of slacks, 1 pair of jeans, 2 pairs of shoes. You should be able to have one small suitcase each as April weather much better than Nov, Dec, and Jan. Packing light is so beneficial to the travel experience.
As you have mentioned you'd like accommodation near the Tower of London ( on one side of the Thames ) or Globe Theatre on the other side of the river you need to understand that by wanting to use the Express to Paddington Station you will be nowhere near either of those locales. You could take a cab though but that is a costly ride.
You can always use the cheaper and longer underground ride from Heathrow into London on the Piccadilly Line ( about an hour) but wanting to be near the Tower of London or Globe Theatre means switching Underground trains and with luggage never fun.
Remember from your previous visit that the underground provides good transport around London. If you chose to say near Paddington Station you can use the underground to get anywhere. Use the VERY useful tfl.gov.uk website to plan your journeys .
The Premier Inn chain is likely what you want; twin rooms within your budget. There are several near the Globe Theatre, of which the Premier In. Southwark (Tate Modern) is the closest. Others would be the Southwark Bankside, or the Premier Inn Blackfriers which is north of the river but you can easily cross on the lovely pedestrian bridge, enjoying the views on the walk. There is also one near Tower Bridge.
Here is the listing of Premier Inns in central London:

As others have stated, you are likely confusing the Heathrow Express train with the Tube (underground). The Heathrow Express goes non-stop to Paddington Station in the northwest area of Central London. It is comfortable and convenient, but pricy unless you buy tickets online 90+ days in advance. If you are lucky to arrive on a weekend the 90-day advance tix are only £5.50 (£12.50 np weekdays). But then you can either have to take a black cab cross-town to your hotel, or use the Tube from Paddington Station to your chosen hotel.
Check the map for the lines serving the station nearest your chosen hotel from Paddington.
Or you could ride the Piccadilly Line from the airport into London, and transfer at some point to the line serving your hotel ( the Piccadilly line itself does not serve the Southwark area south of the river).
Either way you will have to transfer at least once. Tube map:

Note that the schematic map, while very clear and clever, does NOT accurately depict the geographical location of the stations, nor the distance between them.
I’d forget about the Heathrow Express, it’s kind of a white elephant. It only goes to Paddington, which isn’t a super convenient area for tourism. Plus, it only runs every 15 minutes. So, you’re likely not to get where you want to go any quicker than using the Piccadilly line.
The Piccadilly tube line will get you into central London and you can certainly find a hotel along that line. There are a couple of very easy places to transfer further out of central London should that be necessary with just going to the other side of the platform. The central London stations tend to be huge.
As stated, if you want to stay near either the Tower of London or the Globe Theater, then the Heathrow Express would not be my first choice. The Underground (Tube) would be a better choice.
Look at Premier Inns in central and eastern London. Then, once you know your hotel we can help out with directions from Heathrow.
Look at Google Maps, decide on your hotel and then map it out from Heathrow to your hotel. If you were going to use Heathrow Express expect to transfer from the Train station to the Tube Station in Paddington, about a 10 minute walk between the two stations. If you are really going to stay in the Charring Cross / Tower of London Area and want to get there from Heathrow, I would definItely consider taking the tube.
Unless you get a deal(maybe on a weekend?) Hilton will likely be out of your price range. Paddington Hilton is located in the train/Tube terminal.
Tha Falcon Hotel is a five minute walk from Paddington Station.
I'm going to deviate from the other opinions here...I personally am a huge fan of Heathrow Express which, as others have already said, goes straight from Heathrow to Paddington with no stops. 15 minutes to central London. Two tickets on the Express will be 17.60 GBP one way (I just checked that date because I was curious...you're still more than 30 days out from your trip so they are not very expensive if you buy them now).
From Paddington you can simply take a cab anywhere you need to go - follow the arrows on the floor to the taxi queue upstairs. If you want to stay close to the Globe or the Tower it will be a 15-20 GBP cab ride. Totally worth it to to avoid wrangling luggage down into and out of the tube and then dragging luggage down the sidewalk.
On the tube, however, if you do stay somewhere near the Tower of London, it will take an hour by tube to get there with at least one change. If you stay near the Globe there is no tube station that is within easy walking distance to that immediate area. The nearest tube station to the Globe on that side of the river is Southwark - there is a nearby Ibis hotel that is pretty good. That route on the tube will take you an hour with one change.
The questions is do you want to spend less money and take more time to get there OR spend a little more money and get there more quickly!
Actually, Anita's advocacy for the Heathrow Express is no a deviation, ar least from my post, but perhaps I did not make my preference clear enough. The fact that they would have to change Tube lines to reach a South Bank hotel, together with the longer travel time, much of it underground, makes it an inconvenient and unattractive option to me, even if it is cheaper. The cross-town ride in a Black Cab is a rear aightseeing opportunity and nice introduction to London.
My motto in London ( as in life in general) is "any day above ground is a good one". I do not care for the Tube, and use it only when pressed for time. Otherwise it is bus, our own feet, or with luggage, a cab.
I guess that, 5 days on and no no dialogue, chicksberry seems to have abandoned (or never came back to) this thread.
